YouTube.com is getting a new look based on Material Design, a unified system that combines theory, resources, and tools for crafting digital experiences. The company was testing a new flatter, more minimalist website design, opened up a preview of the new design to get feedback.
You can opt-in to preview the new design at YouTube.com/new. If you don’t like it you can opt-out and revert back to the old design by selecting “Restore classic YouTube”. You can also submit your feedback on its new look from Account Menu.
They have removed visuals that could distract users from browsing or viewing video content. The improvements include changes to different sections such as search, channel pages, and theater mode.
In a recent statement, Brian Marquardt, product manager at YouTube said “Starting today, we’re opening up a preview of the new design to a small group of people from all around the world so we can get feedback. While we hope you’ll love what we’ve been working on, we’re also really excited to involve the YouTube community so we can make the site even better before sharing it more broadly.”
As per the YouTube, this new design highlights your favorite videos and creators while making YouTube easier and more fun to use.
